Overview

The Water Systems Assistant Supervisor coordinates and oversees operations of a high purity water system (Water For Injection (WFI) system), clean steam systems, and related equipment on all shifts.  Includes all required preventive maintenance, repairs, and daily operations.  Responsibilities also include the maintenance of air filters on HVAC returns in clean rooms, water and compressed gas filter replacements, and integrity testing of vent filters.  Work is performed in a GMP regulated environment under the supervision of the Manager of Critical Utilities and Reliability.

Responsibilities

  1. Supervise and monitor operations of high purity water system including all critical parameters (conductivity, temperature, and flow) on SCADA system.
  2. Supervise, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on all water system equipment including pumps, valves, steam traps, motors, and related equipment in compliance with existing SOPs.
  3. Perform piping repairs on water systems including potable, pretreatment, DI, WFI, and clean steam.
  4. Assign preventive maintenance and repair work orders necessary to maintain the water system and facilities. Assign work to water system technicians on all shifts ensuring an evenly distributed workload.  Follow-up to ensure that work assignments are being completed
  5. Assign filter change out PMs and filter integrity testing PMs to water techs and follows-up to ensure work assignments are being completed on a timely basis.
  6. Provide training to water system technicians to ensure compliance and consistent performance on tasks.
  7. Assist management in evaluating upgrades, improvements, and operational issues with the high purity water and clean steam systems. Assist engineering with decisions and implementation of new equipment and modifications to existing equipment related to the high purity water and clean steam systems.
  8. Perform administrative duties such as writing and reviewing SOPs, change control requests, and preventative maintenance procedures. Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
  9. Obtain proposals and procure parts and services associated with the high purity water and clean steam systems.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED, trade school and/or apprenticeship or equivalent. Office PC skills, RCM techniques, CMMS exposure.

 

Minimum 5 years hands on experience in the following areas:

  • Operation, troubleshooting, and repair of high purity water systems, WFI, and validated systems.
  • Piping layout, installation, and repair on high pressure steam, potable water, and compressed air systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Physical Demands:
    • Moderate physical exertion requiring lifting of 20-25 lbs 15% of the time. Lifting of 50-75 lbs is required 10% of total time (above 75 pounds with assistance).
    • Must be capable of performing mechanical tasks on ladders in excess of 10 ft.
  • Work Environment - Extreme Working Conditions:
    • Subject to high decibel noise; hearing protection required in some areas
    • Subject to extreme heat (in summer months) equivalent to approximately 40% of shift hours.
    • Hazardous to extremely hazardous conditions such as electrical shock and handling acids and caustics.

SKILLS

  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
    • Ability to document process issues in a clear concise manner in accordance with cGMP, SOPs and Job Aids.
    • Must be capable of working independently or with a team to identify and resolve system problems.
  • Mathematical Skills:
    • Ability to perform basic math, complete basic calculations, and interpret trending.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    • Crucial decisions to determine what is wrong with equipment and systems.
    • Determining an action plan to effect equipment and facilities solutions.
    • Investigation of equipment failures.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Ability to read and understand piping and electrical drawings and P&IDs.
    • Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
    • Working knowledge of high purity water and validated systems.
    • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
