  • Overview

    The R&D Sr. Project Manager utilizes pharmaceutical development knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to plan, monitor, facilitate and administer complex development programs. The R&D Sr. Project Manager will work with R & D, Manufacturing Operations, Engineering, Technical Services, Supply Chain, Marketing and others, to ensure that all needed activities are identified, integrated into a comprehensive plan and executed. This individual will be responsible for developing program budgets, resource planning, and risk analysis/mitigation as well as ensuring that program execution is performed in accordance to planned schedules.  Complex programs include new product development; product launches, contract manufacturing, and others as assigned.


    Plan complex programs, by integrating and linking the engineering, research/development, regulatory, quality, clinical and other activities to meet required business and financial goals.  Create realistic project time-lines based on current workloads, financial objectives, regulatory strategy and resource availability. Facilitate reviews and secure team concurrence.  Create a program budget that captures costs required to complete the program. Direct spend, resource spend and capital expenditures.


    • Prepare and manage risk/issue assessment logs, with recommended mitigation plans.
    • Escalate issues/critical events and facilitate prompt attention/resolution.
    • Facilitate communication between departments as necessary to ensure project/program transparency.  Facilitate discussions between subject matter experts to gain consensus and move projects forward.
    • Create and issue purchase requisitions as needed to support the assigned project.
    • Manage Change Controls as appropriate to bring in new materials, parts, and other items as necessary.
    • Create component/API and other forecasts needed to support the project, based on marketing inputs, regulatory strategy and R & D development plans.
    • Issue program meeting minutes following each meeting to capture decisions and action items.
    • Re-forecast project budget for each re-forecast period to align spends with project status.

    Other duties as assigned.



                Minimum:  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in appropriate discipline.

                Desired: Master’s Degree, PMP Certification or equivalent in related discipline.



    Minimum: 5-7 years of Program Management experience.

    Desired: 4-6 years of pharmaceutical product development, process development, product validation, commercialization and/or equivalent experience.


    • Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills.

    • Excellent attention to detail.
    • Must possess the ability to direct multiple projects in a fast-moving, dynamic environment.
    • Ability to lead teams within the organization and represent department initiatives.
    • Proven ability to effectively influence and collaborate across multiple functional areas to drive projects effectively and provide guidance to project management team.
    • Extensive knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding development and manufacturing of pharmaceuticals.
    • Ability to process and make conclusions quickly.
    • Ability to manage risk and be accountable for projects/personnel under supervision.
    • Must have demonstrated ability to coach and mentor high level development personnel.
